Some of them, like this girl's pic here, I'm putting in a small version on a different layer. Most of the time I rarely look at the reference photo's but when I do, I'm just checking if everything looks all right. Not to mention it's usually very easy to tell the picture was over painted or traced, especially when you're fairly new to digital art (and nobody likes cheaters )). The result may seem better at first but it won't teach you anything. Lately I actually don't use any direct references, I only look up certain parts of things I need (for example a photo of some specific kind of flower or the way feet may look from some angle) but in this case I'm using an older artwork to show the creative use of a whole photo as a reference.Īnd here's the tricky part - do NOT paint ON the pictures. I use them whenever I try to paint something more realistic or something I never painted before, just to make sure all the proportions, lights and such are okay. I hope you'll find it all useful :) First things first. I used the same picture to show the progress although not because it's perfect but because it's got some flaws, correction of which is an important part of this text. It's based on my old tutorial but highly expanded and with many more tips and pictures. I unfortunatly don't have much more programs to test it out. This tutorial is actually more a collection of useful tips about digital painting which, I believe, all people starting out in this area should know. How is the transparency displayed in pureref? Also as checkerboard?Įdit: By the way, also to copy and paste an image with transparencies from ArtRage to Photo works fine. That it doesn't work with Photo could possibly have to do with colour profiles, but I'm not sure about that. So I never used something like pureref (even it sounds interesting) and can't say much about stuff like that and if it is even intended to copy images from it to other programs. It has its own freely positionable and rotatable reference panels that are always on top, except you drag the brush across it - so that it doesn't disturb when you paint. There are many image formats in windows ? It is interesting.I do not know how it works in clipboard to change Alpha Channel image in windows. Does it work with other programs (for example from pureref to GIMP, Krita, or so)? What kind of software is pureref? I suggest the problem might be caused more on that side. I have no experiences with pureref, but I copied from GIMP to Photo some minutes ago, and it worked without problems. ![]()
